Alpha-GPC and Citicoline (CDP-Choline): Interaction Overview
Both citicoline (CDP-choline) and Alpha-GPC are high-bioavailability choline precursors that increase acetylcholine synthesis.
Mechanism of Interaction
Both citicoline (CDP-choline) and Alpha-GPC are high-bioavailability choline precursors that increase acetylcholine synthesis. Combining them at full doses may lead to choline excess, manifesting as fishy body odor, upset stomach, low mood, or fatigue in some individuals. There is no synergistic benefit to combining two choline sources — simply use whichever you prefer at the recommended dose.
Recommendation
Choose one choline source, not both. Citicoline (250–500mg) provides additional cytidine (which converts to uridine) for brain phospholipid synthesis — useful for neuroprotection. Alpha-GPC (300–600mg) converts more efficiently to acetylcholine — preferred for acute cognitive enhancement.
